Hard working Racing Sec
The fifth Club League event was held on Thu 10th May , a 17 mile CP at Calary.
It was a night when the fast men raced with real intent and swept up almost all of those in front of them in the final stages of the race. Escaping their clutches on the night for a family one-two were Eileen O’Sullivan, taking her second win, and John O’Sullivan who both made good on their limit and semi-limit handicaps. Pulling clear of their group they just managed to hold off the fast finishing bunch ,which was led home by scratch men Dave Peelo and Paul Cullinan.
A gap is opening towards the top of the league with John O’Sullivan stretching away following a fourth successive runner up placing. behind its a tightly bunched filed headed by Dave Peelo, Paul Cullinane and Mark Wainer.
Next up is a handicapped 21m CP at Calary on May 31st .

The committee, on behalf of all club members, express our condolences to the family of Morgan Sparrow and to Usher Irish Road Club following Morgan’s death as a result of injuries sustained while while participating in an interclub road race last Thursday. We all know that cycle racing has its risks. Thankfully, tragedies on this scale are rare. We can appreciate how numbing this must be for Usher IRC and Morgan’s family and our thoughts are with them at this sad time.

It is with deep sadness that I have to inform members of the death of long time member and founder of the club, Danny O’Shea, following a long illness. Danny played a leading role in the club, all down the years, and was a leading commissiare and timekeeper in Irish cycling. The club expresses its sympathy to Geraldine and Joanne at this sad time.
Go ndéana Dia trócaire ar a anam
Danny’s removal will be from Sheahan’s Funeral Home , 71 Georges St. Upr., Dun Laoghaire to Dalkey church on Tuesday 1st November for 5 o’clock arrival and the funeral mass will be at 10 o’clock Wednesday morning. See notice here
The club will be providing a (cycling) guard of honour for the Tuesday removal. Please contact John O’Sullivan on 086 8549881 or osulljp@gmail.com

Aidan Ryan’s circuit training will resume on Wednesday 19th October at a NEW location, St Thomas VEC, Novara Avenue, Bray. Unfortunately the only slot available is 7pm-8pm. This is half an hour shorter that in past years, and considerably earlier. We hope to run the circuit training through to mid December, subject to demand.
It is impossible to know if this new arrangement will suit people. The first night is FREE so come along if you can. If numbers are poor we will take it as a sign that it does not suit and is unlikely to work and we will probably not then run the series. We anticipate costs being similar to last year at roughly €5 per head and €2 for underage (will depend on numbers again).

Well done to Paul O’Donoghue, John O’Sullivan and Andy Kavanagh on completing Paris Brest Paris (1,230km) at the end of August. The event runs every 4 years, so plenty of time for all club members to train for 2015!
Congrats to Jamie Noone on being first Junior in the recent national hill climb championship

The final Interclub League race , a 32km CP, takes place at Calary on Thrusday August 4th. Jamie Noone and Dave Peelo are well up on the overall standings and in with a chance of top spot. I’m sure that both would welcome teammate support on the night in their quest for glory.
Apologies for lack of results. I hope to get them posted in the coming days.

Watch Clare Irwin audition for a job in the feed zone on the Tour de France as she expertly passes the musette to Paul, in the dead of night! Bonkers!

We will be operating on a “first past the post” basis. Whoever stands on the rostrum in Paris will be considered the winner, regardless of arbitrations and appeals at a later date (pity to have to say that at all in relation to our sport).
Best of luck to everyone. John O’Sullvan.

The Mick Byrne is over again for another year. Mother nature did its utmost to spoil the party. Thankfully everyone returned in more or less one piece!. Thanks to all who helped on the day and to all the hardy cyclists who braved the weather to support the event.
