Hard working Racing Sec
The club Road Race Championships were held over three laps of the filterbeds circuit on 14th July. First home was national veterans champion Dave Peelo, who got the better of first year Junior, Enda Ryan (just returned from an international track meeting in the UK) in a tight finish. In third place was Conal Higgins Jnr with a very impressive performance after a long lay off with a knee injury.
The race was also handicapped for league purposes, with Dave taking 4 points as winner and all other taking 3 (except for Roy who was given 1 marshalling point). The league is incredibly close with little separating Dave , Roy and also Paddy Mackey at the top. Next up on Wednesday is the final CP over two laps of the filterbeds, followed by the Hill Climb Championship on the following Wednesday (venue TBA).

Books of ten (€5 per ticket) are now available. I will bring them to the Ladies Ashford race on Tue 22nd and the Club Race on Wed 23rd. If you want some, and are not going to be at either event, let me know by text (o86 8549881) or e-mail (osulljp “at” gmail “dot” com). The only rule is, if you take a book you sell a book. In the past I have received unsold books back after the start of the tour, which is pointless. That said, please sell a book! It provides valuable funds towards the running of the club. John O’Sullivan.
I have only a few books left. Those who asked me to hold books, please pay in the next couple of days or I will have to release them.

Congratulations go to long time member and current committee member Dave Peelo who yesterday won the veterans National Road Race Championships in Sligo. This is the premier road race in the cycling calendar for veterans. Dave has had an outstanding career on the roads for almost 25 years and his latest triumph confirms his place as one of the countries most successful road racers.

STOP PRESS!. Saturday 29th May, Ashford Car Park. 10:15am. Usual spin with a stop in Laragh. All welcome. Hope to see you there. John
Last month we started running easy tours , along a route that started at Ashford and headed to Laragh via the Vale of Clara. So far a number of people have come on the spins. All are welcome. You don’t need a road bike, a mountain bike is fine. You do need a helmet.
All welcome, particularly any underage mountain bikers or their parents. You do not need to be a club member to come along first time. Just show up. If you like it, join up and come again. Any experienced club members who want to join us are also more than welcome. Its an enjoyable social spin with a coffee stop along the way.

As you know the discussion forum has been activated for membership. If you have any interest at all in joining this forum (and I suggest that you do so), I am requesting that you register for the forum in the next week. After that time, you will only be able to register by contacting me in advance by e-mail.
My intention, when activating the forum, was that it should be open to everyone to join. That is still my intention.
However, already, three accounts have been set up from Russian domains that I have had to delete. Such domains typically host a lot of spammers and hackers and I will delete all Russian and similiar domains that appear.
So I am giving all club members another week to register on the forum, after which I will lock it down. You will then only be able to register in a more cumbersome manner with a delay.
You may, of course, choose not to register, in which case you can still read all the entries in the forum, but you will not be able to post.

There was a good attendance at the 2009 AGM. We moved through the officer reports and prior year mnutes quickly as they had been sent to members before the meeting. This allowed ample time to get members inputs into the running of the club and the committee appreciates all the feedback received.
The committee for 2009 is as follows:
Chairman John O’Sullivan, Secretary Mark McGarry, Treasurer Claire Irwin, Touring Paul Murray, MTB Linda Haug, Racing Joanne O’Shea, Social Stephen Healy, Coaching Aidan Ryan and Dave Peelo.
