Danny O’Shea RIP
Posted in Uncategorized on October 27th, 2011 by JohnL – Be the first to commentIt is with deep sadness that I have to inform members of the death of long time member and founder of the club, Danny O’Shea, following a long illness. Danny played a leading role in the club, all down the years, and was a leading commissiare and timekeeper in Irish cycling. The club expresses its sympathy to Geraldine and Joanne at this sad time.
Go ndéana Dia trócaire ar a anam
Danny’s removal will be from Sheahan’s Funeral Home , 71 Georges St. Upr., Dun Laoghaire to Dalkey church on Tuesday 1st November for 5 o’clock arrival and the funeral mass will be at 10 o’clock Wednesday morning. See notice here
The club will be providing a (cycling) guard of honour for the Tuesday removal. Please contact John O’Sullivan on 086 8549881 or osulljp@gmail.com
Circuit Training resumes
Posted in Uncategorized on October 11th, 2011 by JohnL – Be the first to commentAidan Ryan’s circuit training will resume on Wednesday 19th October at a NEW location, St Thomas VEC, Novara Avenue, Bray. Unfortunately the only slot available is 7pm-8pm. This is half an hour shorter that in past years, and considerably earlier. We hope to run the circuit training through to mid December, subject to demand.
It is impossible to know if this new arrangement will suit people. The first night is FREE so come along if you can. If numbers are poor we will take it as a sign that it does not suit and is unlikely to work and we will probably not then run the series. We anticipate costs being similar to last year at roughly €5 per head and €2 for underage (will depend on numbers again).

Club League
Posted in Uncategorized on August 3rd, 2011 by JohnL – Be the first to commentThe last few weeks saw fast and furious action in club league, and championships, with some notable performances. Congratulations go to club secretary Mark McGarry on capping a fine season by winning the league by two points from Eileen O’Sullivan. Eileen applied the pressure in winning the final CP race, but Mark had things under control to finish 4th on the night and effectively take the league ( with just the hill climb remaining). In third place was our talented newcomer Jamie Noone, competing in his first full season. Though Jamie didn’t win a race, he placed 2nd or 3rd in seven of the ten races he rode. He missed one race, which proved costly in the end. Close behind came Andy Kavanagh and Paul Cullinan. Had Andy not missed two races, nor gone off course in the TT, he would have been very close to taking the top spot. Overall It was a great league and once again our thanks go to Joanne for all her hard work.
The club Road Race championship was run over the alternative Filterbeds course. It was a hotly contested affair, only settled by a withering attack on the last hill which saw Dave Peelo finally shake off Jamie Noone and Paul Cullinan. Jamie took the sprint for second. Dave and Jamie also took the top two places in the final Championship, the Hill Climb, with Brian Geraghty third.

Interclub League
Posted in Uncategorized on August 3rd, 2011 by JohnL – Be the first to commentThe final Interclub League race , a 32km CP, takes place at Calary on Thrusday August 4th. Jamie Noone and Dave Peelo are well up on the overall standings and in with a chance of top spot. I’m sure that both would welcome teammate support on the night in their quest for glory.
Apologies for lack of results. I hope to get them posted in the coming days.

The Mick Byrne is over again for another year. Mother nature did its utmost to spoil the party. Thankfully everyone returned in more or less one piece!. Thanks to all who helped on the day and to all the hardy cyclists who braved the weather to support the event.
