We done Denis, greats shots…….speaking of shots!!Confused

The Holly Run started late because I was suffering with a mystery illness that I had confided to Patrick. So, when I eventually got to the start I was greeted by all with….."How’s the hangover?" ……….so let me start by saying Patrick was dressed as Santa in Greystones main st. singing like an angel (Hell’s) with a large group of lovely women who could sing. Yes of course I have photos and will print them A4 for Wed night.

Big turn-out in Glen. Headed up to Rocky Valley and across to Ballymagee x-roads and down the tricky lane to Onagh bridge and up the gentle climb to Cronewood. After a couple of km we stopped to pick sprigs of holly. I was handed one as apparently I’m too frail to pick me own! These trees are the same ones we have used since the early ‘70’s

We twiddled on up to Liam’s monument and carefully place our holly around the granite.

Aidan reminded us of Liam’s famous exploits in the Olympics and we once more realised what a privilege it was to have shared time with Liam. A hero and an inspiration to all of us. Always remembered along with Danny, Paddy, Harry……boys who just loved life, especially bike life.

We then completed our ascent to Glencree where I got abused when certain people realised the Café was closed until spring! Gillian led the mutiny when I suggested we go over SallyGap to the  Djouce Café………….so we descended to Poppies in Enniskerry on roads dotted with ice. Café latte (milky coffee) and hot scones warmed us up and it was all so very festive with a good story from Paul Smith (el Presendente Bray Whlrs) of making his two daughters cycle to Kerry (406 km) in three days and they still talk to him too!!!!

Back outside it was bittercold  and we flew back towards Kilmac via Powerscourt and home…………….

Next week is the Saints an’ Sinners Tour and you are guaranteed to see the Hairy Goats of Kevin. They are descendents of St. Kevin’s original flock and are rumoured to cure all manner of illnesses, even hangovers. Now then I gotta go off to print off some Santa images…….ho! ho! Ho!
